Today we celebrate football trailblazer George Taliaferro – the first Black player drafted to the NFL.

In seven NFL seasons, Taliaferro played an unheard-of seven positions: QB, RB, WR, punter, kick returner, punt returner and defensive back.

Before he played pro football, George Taliaferro was a three-time All-American at @IndianaFootball, where, in 1945, he helped lead the Hoosiers to a 9-0-1 record while becoming the first Black player to lead the @bigten in rushing.

George Taliaferro was drafted in the 13th round by the Chicago Bears in the 1949 NFL draft.

But Taliaferro never played with the Bears, having signed a contract the previous week to play for the LA Dons of the AAFC. He joined the NFL with the New York Yanks in 1951.
As a runner, George Taliaferro gained 2,266 yards on 498 carries with 15 rushing TDs.

As a receiver he had 95 receptions for 1,300 yards and 12 TDs.

And as a QB, Taliaferro passed for 1,633 yards and 10 TDs.

He was named to the Pro Bowl three straight seasons from 1951-1953.
