I've been in a creative rut recently, particularly with YouTube, and I think I figured out why.
I was putting out low effort ad lib videos for a while, then I took @AliAbdaal's Part Time YouTuber Academy.
This massively increased my skills and understanding, but I got stuck...

The last video I made was on 7 December where I talked about 'discovering' your personal monopoly, and it did... quite well.
It was also the highest production value video I have ever done: scripted, many cuts, voiceover, B roll, etc. https://twitter.com/m_ashcroft/status/1336079748892594178?s=20

I think what happened is that I 'high production valued' myself into a box, whereby I thought that I had to keep increasing the production value for each video.
But that's a lot of work, and whenever I thought of doing it, I just sort of went..."meh, another time".

This was compounded by the fact that I have spent thousands of pounds on equipment: light, microphone, camera, big ass lamp and soft box, new laptop and editing software.
Surely I had to 'make the most of all that', right? It would be dumb to make an 'easy' video now, right?

Well, wrong.
Not only did I not make any high production value videos, I didn't make any videos.
So today I have made a much lower effort, ad lib video on the related idea that "art is made of constraints" and my process getting out of this rut.

And the ironic thing is that, even though there's no background music, no cuts, and no B roll...
it still is probably the prettiest video I've made just through natural improvement in skills and through the gear upgrades.
I can make pretty ad libs.
Wish I'd known earlier!
