Apparently, the idea that "bricq" was an old "Norois" noun meaning "bridge" is Proust's invention.
Proust also transforms the Islandic etymology into an Irish one (names ending with -fleur).

St Gofroi is a transformation of Blessed Geoffroy de Savigny (2nd abbot of Savigny, in the diocese of Coutances, died in 1139)

The "Roman priest" is in fact deacon St Laurent, martyr in 258 and not Laurent O'Toole who died on his way to meet Henri II Plantagenet (and was revered in Normandy).
