Our @JerichoWriters newsletter today includes a blog on the general word count you should aim for in your novel. This reminded me of when I finished drafting All My Lies and how I had a bit of a meltdown that it was massively too short.
Instead of reading a helpful blog like ours, I took all the thrillers I had off my shelf and tried to guess how many words they contained based on their thickness. This sent me into further meltdown as they all seemed SO LONG.
My saving grace was finding one of @hollyseddon's (I think Try Not To Breathe) which appeared to be 90k based on my inaccurate 'thickness' test.
Anyway, if you want to know how many words a novel should ideally be without pulling the books from your shelves while crying, here's our handy blog about it: https://jerichowriters.com/hub/average-novel-wordcount
