‘Carbs make you fat’ still seems to persist in society, let me break down this myth

Carbohydrates in and of themselves can’t make you fat. Foods like legumes, quinoa, broccoli and even avocado as a fat source contain complex carbs, plenty of fibre and nutrients, and you’re unlikely to overeat and get fat
Carbs
4 calories per gram
Fat
9 calories per gram
Technically we should be blaming fat? But again, healthy sources of fat like avocados, nuts and seeds can’t be blamed for putting on weight as these are whole, nourishing foods

It’s all about what your macronutrients come with. Nutrient poor foods don’t contain fibre or satiating nutrients so irrespective of the macronutrients, you will never feel satisfied to the point where your hunger suppressing hormones will switch on, and say you’ve had enough
There’s a reason we can binge on doughnuts but we can’t binge on avocados or lentils. The presence of fibre and nutrients in whole foods mean that we will eat until our body is naturally content, and won’t overeat to the point where we can gain weight
Refined foods don’t offer this - so yes while some carbs like white bread and doughnuts come into this category, all carbohydrates shouldn’t be demonised because of this.
In any case I believe we should aim for a state of health before chasing a weight loss goal. Doing the former in the right way and focusing on whole, unprocessed plant foods as part of a healthy lifestyle will in most cases bring our bodies towards its natural state
Eat your carbohydrates - but stick to complex ones.
