There is an ongoing effort by the European military-humanitarian complex to recast the free movement of African people within their own Continent as some sort of criminal entreprise.

What does "all countries along the route leading to Morocco" even mean? 1/ https://twitter.com/cochetel/status/1359097451286851585
West African citizens travelling to Morocco would mostly move through ECOWAS countries - a free-travel area of 15 states. In fact, 70% per cent of West Africans who migrate, do so within this region: https://www.iom.int/west-and-central-africa 2/
In recent years a tiny minority of West Africans have decided to move on to Europe.
So, 🇪🇺driven agencies like IOM recast their countries as "transit" or "destination" countries, and free movement between them becomes problematic in the light of "irregular migration" to Europe.3/
These agencies' focus on "routes" and "trafficking rings" glosses over the fact that these exist as a direct result of European policies creating deadly bottlenecks at "key" passages in Niger, Libya, Morocco... forcing people to look for new and more dangerous ways to move. 4/
Crucially, this narrative obliterates the reality of millions of people freely on the move, a small fraction of whom, at some point in time and space over their life journeys, decide to try their luck in Europe... 5/
...instead, it pictures an non-existent pipeline that pumps "migrants" from "origin countries", through "transit countries" and into Europe, by the hands of "ruthless human smugglers". 6/
Could you imagine UNHCR advocating for a crackdown on the "routes" to France from Southern Europe, become some impoverished Italian might be tempted to sneak into the UK illegally? Well that's quite literally their Africa policy.
