We use theory-driven annotated data and ML to assess perceived job satisfaction in two facets, pay & supervision. We measure the construct validity of our assessment and dive deep in drawing meaning in demographic differences in job satisfaction by geography, sex, and race. 3/
Studying linguistic differences, we found how social media language reflects that the majority groups expressed mostly about career growth, salary, and intrinsic job aspects,
whereas the underrepresented groups expressed about basic needs, flexibility, and minimum wage. 4/

This work highlights how job satisfaction paradox and frame of reference differences might cause greater job satisfaction despite being disadvantaged in the workforce. A key takeaway: a worker should not only be paid what they are satisfied with, but also what they deserve. 5/
This study is an example of how these assessments can be misleading when only looked at superficially. But deeper investigation reveals the unique demographic disparities in needs, concerns, & priorities of individuals at workplace, revealing the need to account for these factors
