Function is no longer obscured by moral theatricality... it's emancipated from that which used to make our surroundings a mirror of a reified human structure.

They're free as functional objects - they have freedom to function, and that's practically the only freedom they have.
i recently got back into interior design as i got myself new furniture and tried (again) to organize my apartment in a pleasant and functional way, and looking online for inspiration made me feel very confused. for a long time i couldn't pinpoint why exactly, but...
it felt like no pictures portrayed anything that an apartment of mine could ever look like, in both aesthetics and functionality

looking for a chair that would let me sit with my feet at butt level (as if on the floor) and not finding one made it click - my manners are too weird
i similarly failed to find a desk with any of the elements i wanted - i had a hard time even trying to come up with one

how insane is that? having a few minor eccentricities is enough to make an activity as simple and mundane as <furnishing a living space> nearly impossible
"the medium is the message" is a cliché people don't pay nearly enough conscious attention to - there's endless non-obvious things that are actually "mediums" - there is not a single thing around you that does not condition you in some way
what things are available for purchase and what operations are involved with their use shapes everyday life, my guess is that most normies do things in a predictable enough way or are sufficiently amenable to conditioning that they can compromise with what's already being offered
