From a copy of the safety protocols obtained by Yahoo Sports: "Vaccination for COVID-19 will be voluntary for all players. However, MLB and the MLBPA will strongly encourage players to undergo vaccination at the appropriate time....
In addition, the parties, in consultation with their respective medical experts, will consider in good faith relaxing these protocols on a league-wide, team-wide and/or individual basis […] but only to the extent it is safe and appropriate to do so, [based on immunization]"
the legality of requiring the vaccine is a little bit fluid— EEOC said employers *can* require it, with religious/disability exemptions. It would likely be negotiated in unionized workplaces although employers could attempt to impose mandates citing management right's clause
but the point is they're NOT requiring it. When I talked to experts last month they both recommended NOT mandating vaccines at this point and instead focusing on education, which MLB seems to be doing. https://sports.yahoo.com/when-do-baseball-players-get-the-covid-19-vaccine-how-mlb-will-navigate-the-messy-rollout-161132326.html
