Agenda for Day 1 of former President Trump's second impeachment trial:

—Senators convene at 1pm ET
—House impeachment managers & Trump defense team each get 2 hours to argue whether impeaching a fmr POTUS is constitutional
—Senators vote on whether to proceed (51 votes needed)
Reminder:

Senate voted 55-45 on 1/26 to table a motion by @RandPaul to dismiss the trial b/c Trump is no longer in office.

Today, senators will formally vote on whether they feel the trial is constitutional.

Do any of the 45 GOP senators who sided with Paul change their minds?
Because five Republican senators voted with all 50 Democrats to table @RandPaul's motion two weeks ago, it's expected today's vote to proceed with the impeachment trial will reach the 51-vote threshold.

Once that happens, formal trial arguments begin tomorrow.
Another reminder:

To convict Trump, 17 GOP senators would have to vote w/ all 50 Dems (67 votes needed).

This is not expected to happen.

But if it did, a conviction wouldn't ban Trump from running for office again. A separate 'ban' vote would have to happen after impeachment.
Ohio followers:

@SenSherrodBrown (D) has argued since Jan. 6 that Trump should be convicted for his role in the Capitol attack
@senrobportman (R) voted against tabling @RandPaul's motion, but has said he'll listen as a juror and then decide whether to convict or acquit
