Think about it: The premier humanities and social sciences academic institution could not make a deal with the only Black academic association in the federation for the 2021 conference. But Ibram Kendi will likely be paid thousands of dollars to speak. If scholars in Canada think
that makes sense well we know how terrible things really are. If scholars in Canada beyond Black scholars don’t make a stink about this then we know who we work among. If scholars in Canada don’t stand in solidarity then we get the full picture of what Canada is. And the
Federation’s gall to invoke their EDI committee is a deeply shameful insult added to the injury. Canadian humanists and social scientists actually have one choice. Let’s sit and see what they do.
