The new farm laws have been in discussions for over 2 decades & party in govt has passed them now while d main opposition party has had d same in its 2019 manifesto. It has been hailed by prominent agriculture economists like Ashok Gulati & others as much needed....1/7
Then why the agitation?

It is primarily by Punjab farmers followed by Haryana. First, only 6% of farmers get benefited by MSP, interestingly majority of them are from Punjab followed by Haryana. The new laws will majorly diminish the role of arhtiyas thereby........2/7
making the MSP process more equitable across India. Strong nexus of Arhtiyas and politicians will lose easy money big time.

Second, new laws will nudge farmers from Punjab to diversify crop cultivation in a major way. Punjab is an ecological disaster.........3/7
with water table going alarmingly low primarily due to paddy cultivation. Both these factors point to major shifts for farmers as well as powerful lobbies primarily in Punjab belt, hence a strong resistance to change which is manifested in these protests...........4/7
Conspiracy:

Now, forces inimical to the interests of India, backed by urban naxals, fiberals and separatists sensed an opportunity to create mayhem, infiltrated and took control of these protests leading to the untoward events on January 26. The international..........5/7
conspiracy was exposed when #GretaThunberg inadvertently posted a ‘toolkit’ which was a detailed account on how to malign and destabilize India.

Conclusion:

Hence this is primarily about ‘resistance to change’ from powerful vested interests from a specific region,.........6/7
which in turn is getting exploited to hatch an ‘international conspiracy’ against India. Incidentally, I write abt this conspiracy in d context of CAA in my new book “The Crusader: How Modi Won 2019 Elections” & warn of a repeat in future......7/7
