STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER (Abrams, 2019): Hoo boy. (I liked a total of about 15 minutes of this movie, except the problem is it's 142 min long)
I liked the part where they were on the Austrian planet with Keri Russell. But there was too much Whedon shit in the movie, it made no sense, it went on forever, the fan service was out of control, thank god this story is over
I saw all the Star Wars movies in a theatre. Saw a triple bill of the original trilogy in 70mm. Saw one of them at Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. But I watched Rise of Skywalker on my laptop over two days, over a year after it was released.
Force Awakens - a soft reboot of Star Wars 77
Last Jedi - "All that stuff that happened in the last movie? It doesn't matter"
Rise of Skywalker - "All that stuff that happened in the last movie? It doesn't matter"
I got a huge headache when RISE came out, being billed as the final chapter in "the Skywalker Saga" (a term that did not exist until 2019) and then everyone pretending they liked the movie said "a rousing finale to the Skywalker Saga"
"Oh the Emperor is alive"
"Oh Chewbacca is dead. Oh wait he's alive"
"Oh they had to wipe C3P0's memory and he won't remember anything anymore. Oh R2D2 fixed it"
MISS ME WITH THIS SHIT
Bringing back Palpatine means Vader sacrificed himself in JEDI for no reason. Booooooooo
also at the end when Rey kills the Emperor....who cares? He got thrown down a nuclear shaft, exploded, and then got blown up again when the Death Star blew up and still lived, so he'll just come back from being electrocuted to death this time, nothing matters, who cares
Carrie Fisher got top billing in the end credits. I thought the use of her from old footage was kinda gross... laughed at a scene where Rey solemnly gives Luke's lightsaber over to Leia... then 5 minutes later Leia solemnly gives Luke's lightsaber over to Rey as the music swells.
