GAY IN THE 80s & TRANS TODAY IN THE UK - A COMPARE & CONTRAST

Gay in the 1980s:
S28 introduced - discussing homosexuality in schools banned;
No workplace discrimination laws;
No marriage equality;
Unable to adopt;
Lesbian mothers lost custody of their children;
No media representation;
No lesbian or gay characters on TV until Eastenders introduced a gay couple in 1987 whose gay kiss (peck on the forehead) caused public outrage;
Incredible societal homophobia exacerbated by the AIDS epidemic;
Lesbians & gay men couldn’t hold hands or display any affection in public without attracting abuse, often physical;
Very few out lesbians & gay men;
Culture of fear, oppression & shame;
Gay conversion therapy was a thing, particularly in religious circles.
Trans in 2021:
No S28, quite the opposite in fact! Children are taught in schools that LGB & T people exist, & in addition have been indoctrinated with regressive gender ideology care of Stonewall, Mermaids etc. Thankfully the DfE has now clamped down on this;
Have the same human rights as everyone else, as of course they should, obviously including all of the rights gay people fought for;
High level of acceptance of LGB & T people in society;
Massive media representation & funding, to the extent that women & LGB people who attempt
to protect their rights are branded bigots & silenced;
Incredibly well funded charities such as Stonewall have captured institutions both public & private, & by misrepresenting the EA, have endangered women’s rights;
Plenty of LGB & T characters in film & on TV;
Other oppressed groups such as women & LGB people have been redefined without their consent to include trans people.

This does not look like a culture of fear, oppression & shame to me. Does it to you?

CONCLUSION: THERE IS NO COMPARISON. IT’S A COMPLETELY FALSE EQUIVALENCE.
