The reasons, processes, results and lastly the consequences of those drastic changes in their characters.

After their separation in last week's episode.

Efsun was taken to Nizam's underworld.

While Yamaç was kidnapped to Kulkan's fake Afghanistan.

Both not knowing what the other is going through.

And so it begins ...

The journey of demolishing their characters. To erase the concepts that their personalities are based on. And replacing them with an abnormal new versions of themselves.

Versions that are nothing but dark. And in their darkness they'll fall.

First, we have Yamaç.

It was an intentional move from Kulkan to tell him that they are in Afghanistan (Kulkan's version).

Why was it an intentional move?

To begin the process of breaking Yamaç.

He needed Yamaç to think that he's distanced from anyone that can help him. And that worked as Yamaç felt lonely & hopeless.

Which is essential in breaking anybody's will.

You start by making the person (that you want to break) to feel isolated.

Yet, the first thing that Yamaç asked about was Efsun ...

Even when he is in that horrible condition. He wanted to know where is she? Yes, he might be going through hell, yet, his mind is thinking about her.

Always have and always will.

The reason : Kulkan wanted Yamaç to pay for what he did to him (making Kulkan k1ll Ogeday).

Now, to initiate demolishing-the-character process, you need to erase his (Yamaç) identity which is glued to his name.

And we all know how Yamaç takes pride in his name. So, K must change & erase that.

And he wants to replace it with "böcek".

And here Kulkan wanted Yamaç to feel worthless and ripped off from everything that represented his identity.

As Kulkan aims at Y & pulls the trigger, you see that Yamaç didn't even flinch.

And that is to portray to the viewer that he isn't broken.

Well, not yet.

And from their red/bruised hands, you know that they brutally beaten him up.

And that is the physical part. You need to weary him out to gradually make him get closer and closer to the breaking down point.

And so, you'll start with the physical damage. It will weaken him and then you shall proceed. All what you have to do is to drain him out of strength. Make him dream of comfort. And deprive him from anything that can provide him any sort of calmness. To be on the edge.

Because Kulkan wants to make Yamaç metamorphose into a böcek

And now, when Kulkan pulls the trigger. Yamaç's reaction changes.

He flinches.

And that means the process is working. Yamaç's will is getting destroyed. And Kulkan's figure to him is changing as he starts to fear him.

And this is the beginning of the mental process.

Using sound to break Yamaç.

Kulkan used the "sound torture" method & it is associated with sleep/sensory/food/drink deprivation. And we saw how it badly affected him. He couldn't sleep & barely given a decent meal/drink to nourish his body with.

The try to hid but you'll always be caught ...

It's a method that is used to erase the feeling of hope from a prisoner.

And that's what happened with Yamaç. He was given hope that as he was sneaking out that he'll finally escape this horrible place.

But they were waiting for him. That's why later in the episode, even when they leave him, he's scared to leave. Because he thinks that they are outside waiting for him.

So, he's scared. And he refuses to abandon the place that caused him nothing but pain.

The drastic changes in Yamaç's character is seen as he starts to fear them. Not even wanting them to come closer to him.

He no longer the fearless Yamaç Koçovalı that we all know.

But a broken man that have no one to help him in this hell that he's going through.

Kulkan's job was done when Yamaç forgot his name & said "böcek"

Declaring that he lost his identity.

Now it's time for the results ...

Yamaç stuck with Kulkan's routines. Daily shaving, repeating that his name is böcek.

Therefore, he lost himself in the process. And somehow started taking care of the sheeps.

But he's lifeless. Just being there & not really there.

Now it's #Efsun's turn ...

The reason : Kulkan's way of fulfilling Çağatay's will.

First scene for Efsun (after couple of years) is in the pavyon singing.

Her body language show you that she's forced & not enjoying it.
Her eyes are filled with anger/pain/hurt.

But she's holding her ground. Not showing anything. Keeping the poker face for the audience.

Then we see her backstage. Tired & bad tempered. No longer the quiet & calm Efsun.

Even when Nizam tried to touch her, she immediately snapped at him.

She became aggressive. Not wanting anyone to touch her & throughout the ep she didn't let anyone touch her.

Now, this is depressing.

Nizam is using her like a tool. She's ALWAYS followed by Nizam & his men dragging her from one place to another to sing/dance.

Yet, she's not resisting nor refusing any of it.

Why ? What is the reason behind such a change in her character ?

Nizam is mocking Efsun's way of heading to her room. We all thought that she wanted to rest. To be away from him. But little did we know ...

Extremely tired yet, not showing any soft side.

Efsun immediately orders the person inside to open the door & to leave the room. And she did.

Nizam notify Efsun that her time has already begun.

But she doesn't care & immediately get inside & close the door behind her.

The answer to the previous question is

Efsun is being used by Nizam because he's threatening her with her own daughter.

The only thing that she have left from Yamaç. Whom she don't even know where he is, ?

She's singing/dancing for her daughter's sake.

But here's the thing ...

The moment Efsun entered her daughter's room she 180 degree changed. Into another Efsun. A loving/caring Efsun. She's normal when she's with her daughter. It's like she's the reason why she's holding on tight to this cruel world.

But even when she's with her daughter the pain exist. As she sings her song, she cries.

Efsun is still in pain. Didn't get into the healing phase. And it won't happen very quickly because the damage that ruined her, is still here.

And she can't face her pain alone.

Things getting clearer to us ...

We realize that this isn't Efsun's room but her daughter & that she have a limited time to spend with (it's been going on like this for couple of years). And it seems whenever her time is up, she refuses to easily let go of her daughter.

When Nizam threatens to forcibly get her out of the room she immediately agree to his demands.

Remember the stubborn Efsun.
She's gone & is replaced with this broken Efsun that can't resist nor refuse anything.

It's out of her hands.

Efsun's voice cracks, tone changes to an obedient person.

Immediately agreeing to Nizam's orders because she doesn't want to lose her chance of again being with her daughter.

Details that reveal the changes in her character ...

She's always looking behind her back with an angry look. Even when she's in the baddest conditions, she tries to control the situation. That she is here & don't want anyone to mess up with her.

Her look says it all.

Just like Yamaç, Efsun was deprived from even the smallest things that could have given her comfort.

They kept her in the basement. To sleep on the cold hard floor. Nothing to sit on. Just surrounded by walls.

And like a tool, whenever they wanted her, they'll get her.

The similarities between her & Yamaç continue ...

Both are lifeless, eat what they get in order to survive, lost in their own thoughts ...

The itching thing ...

It's known that itching is a sign of dr*g addiction. And I wish that I can say that Efsun is taking painkillers. I'm sorry but she isn't.

Nizam is providing her with it.

And due to everything that she went through of physical/mental pain, I guess that she found comfort (more like numbness) in taking dr*gs.

It made her feel nothing.

Momentarily, allowing her to float in a world that she isn't kidnapped/forced-to-work/alone ...

Many will judge her but I can't even criticize her for taking such an unexpected rocky road. She had a life before, which is

To think that you trusted Yamaç, but he's nowhere to be seen.

Efsun is losing herself. And someone else is playing her role. She just sits back swallow the pills & see how they work. They silence the voices in her head and numb the pain of her body.

She must be wondering ...

Even when she's broken you can still see some glimpses of the old/protective/strong side of her.

But notice how she insists that NO ONE touches her ...

She wasn't like this.
You'll know now why she has become like this ...

Yamaç's new name is Böcek.
While Efsun's new name is Simay.

As their lives drastically changed, so did their names.

The life that they lived before isn't associated with the names that they carry now.

The old stubborn/strong Efsun was due to being tortured broken.

Yet, she tries to not lose her herself. And her daughter is the main thing for her to not lose it all.

He forces her to dance/sing but that's it. He uses her as a tool but he doesn't profit from her body (prostit*tion)

Efsun was accustomed to the substance that she was taking & it's been couple of years of which it became an essential thing in her life.

And so ...

Unfortunately, her body/mind became dependent on it.

So, when Efsun was imprisoned, it meant that she couldn't take her dose. Therefore, her body will once again be thrown off balance & symptoms of withdrawal will occur.

Symptoms can be both physical & mental & can potentially be dangerous depending on the type of drug.

Can be hints that he's the one who tortured her because when he said those words, Efsun was edging herself away from him.

Especially, the sentence :

So, he's the one who broke her.

Through the humiliation, torture & pain, Efsun manages to find strength from her daughter's existence.

She refuses to give up on her. She won't give up on her. If there's something that is enabling her to endure the sufferance then it will be her daughter.
