Anyone else noticed this caveat slide into the #metoo discourse? The phrase "CREDIBLY accused".
It seems rather sneaky (credible according to whom?)
Victims have always faced those trying to discredit them (Nutty and slutty?). Defence attorneys tried to paint rape victims as "asking for it". Credibility was always an issue. And men were seen as "more credible" than women.
So now we have those who want to support women, saying someone was "CREDIBLY accused", when there's been no court case - they're doing their own victim-judging.
If I read on the internet that someone's been accused of misconduct, I don't know what's true. AND NOR DO YOU.
But the "credibility" slide seems to flow straight back to "the accused is someone I don't like/trust".
"I know him, he'd never do something like that!". Therefore the accusation is not credible. And women are back where we started.
