gained the infamous epithet by supporting the English invasion of Gwynedd in the 1080s. Owain did this to dislodge Gruffydd ap Cynan from Gwynedd's throne. Owain then led a rebellion against the English in order to claim Gwynedd, which he appears to have succeeded in doing.. 2/4
