Many of you who follow us will have noticed that we vary our content quite a bit from day to day. That's because our museum is made up of many fantastic departments, with sites across the UK! Here's a little whistle-stop tour of what we do at the National Justice Museum:
In normal times, our Nottingham site is open to the public as a visitor attraction. We focus on crime and punishment throughout time and use storytelling and performances to tell real stories of real people. Here are some of our interpreters doing what they do best:
Not only that, we're also partnered with @cityofcaves, which looks at Nottingham's unique history as a city built on top of caves! We usually do tours of our cave network, but sometimes we'll have characters dotted around, too!
But what else do we do? We've been focusing a lot on the work our artistic programming team have been doing as of late, as they're working super hard behind the scenes to bring the museum and its collection out into the community.
We work with a range of partners, artists & collaborators to help make the museum more accessible. Our building can feel a little imposing, but that doesn't mean we can't take our work out into the community! This refurbished bike will be taking workshops in envelopes out soon...
We also have a fantastic writer in residence, Dr Martin Glynn, who has worked on a range of projects since joining us. We'll be sharing some more about the work @msoulfires has done with some letters in our collection in the next week or so...
We also have an award winning education programme, which allows young people to visit us in London, Manchester & Nottingham. We offer workshops that cover citizenship, law & history, and some of these workshops have even been adapted for digital delivery! https://bit.ly/3a3utbW
We are also partnered with the fantastic @kinsellatrust to teach young people about the dangers of carrying a knife. These workshops are delivered in our historic Lace Market police station and take a preventative approach. After all, no child is born holding a knife.
But wait - there's more! We also host events, including cocktail and crime evenings, murder mysteries and crime clubs! For the spooky crowd, we also host ghost tours, fright nights and even paranormal investigations...yikes! đŸ‘»đŸ˜±
So! To summarise, we do a lot of exciting and varied work here at the museum. If you're interested in learning a little bit more about each department, here are their Twitter handles:
