rodriguez became deeply involved w the jm/wave facility on the campus of the university of miami, headed by cia officer ted shackley. rodriguez became the project’s communications chief
jm/wave was the largest cia station in the world at the time. it had 400 agents and 15,000 cuban exiles, ran hundreds of front companies throughout southern florida, had a $50 million annual budget ($400 million in today’s dollars), and had the third largest navy in the caribbean
feliz rodriguez acted as the cia liaison officer w the bolivian forces hunting che guevara. they eventually captured che and the rest of the cuban revolutionaries in 1967, interrogated them, and executed them. felix had a bolivian soldier kill che. he took che’s watch as a trophy
during the vietnam war in the early 1970s, rodriguez helped train provincial reconnaissance units (PRU) for operation phoenix and was the head advisor for the extermination program in III corps alongside rudy enders
in the 1980s felix rodriguez ran death squads in el salvador along a phoenix-type program while coordinating and facilitating arms smuggling and drug trafficking for the contras
george hw bush met w rodriguez to discuss working in el salvador via his national security advisor donald gregg, who served w rodriguez in phoenix back in the ‘70s (over 48,000 vietnamese were killed, labeled as “vietcong infrastructure” tortured, and systematically exterminated)
officially rodriguez wasn’t working with the contras until 1986, but in 1985 the cia sent him to coordinate activities at the air force base in ilopango, el salvador (which the contras had been using since 1983). he brought fellow cuban exile luis posada to be his right hand man:
at one point edwin p wilson tried getting arms dealer sarkis soghanalian to kill rodriguez because rodriguez was “...a big mouth”. also lol “...he drinks and cries and says he wants his girlfriend” ,,, me too bud
