This is an @ajassy fan tweet. I am really uncomfortabe that lots of people here know me as an AWS critic because I'm actually a big fan. I just had a messy divorce and that's ok. I am still a big fan and really enjoyed my time at AWS. so let me explain a bit why...
First, I was blessed to get to work at AMZN/AWS. I'm a born-in-seattle guy who learned directly from Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, and Microsoft in the 90s and 2000s was a blessing, and then getting to learn a bit from another amazing company from my backwater town was AMAZING.
I couldn't imagine (and still can't) anyone better than Andy to run Amazon. In my experience there, I saw that he inspired amazing leaders in AWS that inspired me, he reached down and brought up great people, I never saw him preach inappropriately, he set high bars...
and most impressive to me, he created patterns for success people saw and knew they needed to emulate. How the doc process worked and the bar set, how the business was run with the weekly business reviews that put customer success as the most important thing, and how he modeled.
And "dive deep" was the thing I was most impressed with. I reviewed every single line of how every single product was described. and then Andy reviewed it and made it all better. his re:Invent keynote is not just a show of messaging force, it is Andy modeling excellence.
Lastly, I can say that he is a great person who wants to make people more successful and institutionalize that at AWS and Amazon. It makes me really happy that a Seattle person who is running the biggest employer in the countr is doing that. He has big challenges in front of him
but I can say that I have every reason to believe he will address them as a great human who cares about people and long-lasting legacy. I heard him say many times "I want to be part of something my grandchildren are proud of" and I believe that is 100% true.
There are true believers in the Amazon culture, which is not perfect, but is very good. and they will be more convicted to innovate and keep getting better with a Day 1 mentality. And Andy will I think be even more confident to be a listener and a leader on that journey now.
I can't wait to see what Amazon does next, and I know Andy will do a great job leading it.
