Obviously kids should know that African Americans helped build early America, but you can't just claim the Revolutionary War was about preserving slavery. Not only did Britain not ban slavery until decades after, but numerous Founders were abolitionists & the war was about taxes

Nobody remembers 95% of the stuff that gets a Pulitzer Prize. It probably would've fizzled into relative irrelevance on its own if conservatives hadn't waged a holy war against it
