I don’t accept that ppl believe racist ideologies as much as they use it as a convenient excuse in exercising raw power. For instance, ppl were well aware that it was primarily white men assaulting Black women even as they pointed to BM deviancy as justification for lynchings...
...I likewise think we need to stop assuming racists are genuinely motivated by emotions of “fear” when they behave violently. We have enough caught-on-video incidents of white ppl making false allegations against Black ppl at this point to know this has always been the case.
And I’ve said this before, but I’m also not convinced people genuinely believe the election was stolen as much as they have an expectation that whiteness empowers them to make whatever wild proclamation they want & society is obligated to bend to accommodate it.
The manner in which ppl still largely operate w/ assumption that racist white ppl are uniquely naive & led astray & have been deceived into their violently racist behavior—even when society doesn’t entirely accommodate “the big lie”— is still a function of racial privilege...
...and the assumption of innocence that is afforded those classified as “white.” MT Greene is a perfect example. She engaged heavily in racist conspiracy theories & harassment for years yet on a dime cld pretend to disavow it when she calculated it wld serve her quest for power.
For so long in this country the status quo has been a situation of the white power structure being able to enforce whatever lie it so chooses through use of violent force. Trump & QAnon are manifestations of this dynamic of white supremacy as well. Now we face a reckoning w/ it.
