FYI it is a MAJOR HIPAA violation to view colleagues medical records. A student DM’d me saying they were informed a classmate viewed their medical record - including psych notes. Hospital sent letter to patient (med student) that classmate did this.
viewing ANY person’s medical record not directly under your care is a HIPAA violation. This includes your own kid’s, partners, work mates, etc.

Now a med student is living with fact classmate read their entire medical record.

NOT OKAY.
Okay yeah so what should student do?

I told them to get a lawyer?

Legit a classmate viewed their EMR and this was a letter sent to them by the hospital.
By the way, if anyone ever views my medical record without my permission I will blast you publicly in every sphere imaginable.

Oh forgot the best part of this: the school thought it would be fine if the two students were rotating together next month. And couldn’t understand why the victim wouldn’t want to be around their snooper classmate.

Like gee, I don’t know maybe because they break the law?
Also am I worried a residency program will see me standing up for a med student here? No? Because this is actually a PATIENT!
Oh forgot the second worst part: the student used the “care everywhere” function to snoop. The med student victim (patient) went to OUTSIDE providers for care. Med student snoop took it upon themselves to look at blown in records from OUTSIDE hospital. 🙄 like “care everywhere”
I can’t tell you how screwed up this is. Like beyond f’d up. This is one example of 1738383 why healthcare workers don’t get mental health treatment. Also, imagine if they were woman pregnant, had STI, etc. like this is so screwed up.
