It’s common advice to join a high growth startup if you want to start your own company one day.

As an UberEX founder, I’m realizing that the experience of scaling Uber was a better than any accelerator or incubator out there. Here’s why: (1/8)
(2) There are key 3 components to getting a new company off the ground:
1. Idea and execution
2. Access to talent
3. Access to capital
(3) Being a part of a hyperscale company is an unparalleled learning experience. You learn by doing, not by listening to talks and webinars. You hone execution ability, learn the pitfalls, see and feel what success looks like. This leads to better ideas and execution.
(4) You’re surrounded by other talented folks who are also learning the same accelerated pace. As a result, when you’re ready to get a team together to start something, your friends are literally the best in the world at what they do, and they have an interest in entrepreneurship
(5) When there is a liquidity event, employees gain access to capital. Even if you weren’t “early enough” or didn’t have a large equity grant, you still have access to capital because you are friends and colleagues with the early people and leaders
(6) The liquidity event creates an army of angel investors, equipped with deep expertise and a fierce enthusiasm to see their friends succeed. Raising a “friends and family” pre-seed is much easier with a lot of your friends are millionaires...
(7) Institutional investors who see the upside in tapping into this network will hire people from the company as investors. This makes raising future rounds much easier as well because you have an in with most of the funds.
(8) I’m calling it now: the index of companies started by Uber Alums will outperform any accelerator or fund of the same vintage. I’m SUPERPUMPED to see the amazing companies built by this community, and forever grateful to @travisk and the Uber team 🙏
