I've got a story from 2018 Abolish ICE protests outside detention centers & how there was an extreme level of ignorance among some comrades that amounted to Mexico stanning....in solidarity with primarily Guatemalan & Nicaraguan immigrants. 
I can tell this if folks wanna hear it but not at the moment. Just recognize mariachi is intimately tied to Mexican national identity & pretty insulting to play outside of a detention center full of Central Americans. Will ping back later 
Ok back. So lots of attention on the US-Mexico border. But we need to talk about this border

Its been heavy for years but it detentions tripled in the 2019 summer over the same period in 2018. Mexico deployed 2000 federal guardsmen to the border, a mix of MPs, marines & soldiers.

Also part of this plan, was updating all 52 of Mexico's detention facilities with state of the art surveillance & security tech. All that spy tech along the southern border as well. Basically, the plan was to turn Mexico itself into Trump's border wall
The journey is so horrendous, conditions in Mexico unbearable re: xenophobia, gangs & state repression families become dissolved resulting in large numbers of children w/out adults arriving at the northern border

So now with all that background, a group of people at this anti-ICE demo decided it'd be a smart idea to hire a mariachi band (Mexican) to play outside a detention center in NY. This particular center held Central Americans (not Mexicans). Not only is this a racist oversight but
Mariachi itself is nationalistic. And you're now celebrating a Mexican cultural thing to people who've been personally victimized by the Mexican govt, experienced discrimination from Mexican society. Rubbing dirt in their faces. Get how bad this looked? Anyway,
