The Georgia Republican Party just released its elections task force report and it’s a masterclass in both not understanding election administration as well as reactionary measures after losing in 2020. #gapol

Members of this task force include the embattled chair of the Gwinnett elections board that called to end early voting, a former state Senator who held conspiracy theory hearings to overturn election+an attorney who helped Rudy Giuliani push false claims of voter fraud. #gapol https://twitter.com/stphnfwlr/status/1358942460584550402
Notably, some of these proposals would actually harm Republican voters and majority-Republican counties outside of metro Atlanta (the ones that actually make sense within context of election admin) https://twitter.com/stphnfwlr/status/1358942460584550402
Let's go point by point:
I'm no expert, but the National Voting Rights Act has some thoughts about when you can do list maintenance activities, and GA already has aggressive policies/timelines!
(you can't do this within 90 days of an election!)

2:
More than 5 million of GA's 7.6 million registrations came through the motor voter law, so this makes it harder for everyone... also, you can't "accidentally" register ineligible voters?

Skipping around a bit, the GAGOP task force report recommends getting rid of ballot curing (which both parties use and also wants the SOS to essentially.... create the already-existing absentee voter file, with a few more additions about vote review panels.
The GAGOP falsely characterizes Fulton County's mobile voting buses and uses the wrong code section/logic to try and outlaw them.
(they're pop-up early voting sites, applicable via 21-2-382, enacted by GOP-led HB 316)

Unfunded mandate! You can't make equitable EV locations because counties have different populations, different EV patterns and this would seemingly prevent counties from having *more* locations+times for voters (aka urban Democratic counties)
The GAGOP falsely says @dominionvoting systems aren't auditable or transparent, then suggests a mandated switch away from BMDs to hand-marked paper ballots with a specific vendor (state procurement probably wouldn't allow that)
Georgia GOP SOS/lege just approved BMDs in 2019!
Georgia GOP SOS/lege just approved BMDs in 2019!
This is basically what's already in 21-2-265 (f), a new line also approved in 2019's HB 316 that limits polling place changes within 60 days of an election...
This deals with third-party grants after the Center for Tech and Civic Life awarded a ton of money to a ton of Georgia counties (large and small, D and R) to help with the November general election.
In a sign that transparency is totally the goal, the GAGOP wants to ban the @CarterCenter, @ACLUofGA and anyone not a political party from being a credentialed monitor of elections (?!)
Also, they want the governor to be allowed to call a special session or new election (?!)

I'd like to introduce the GAGOP to the EAC certification process, the NVRA and the Electronic Registration Information Center.
This section would probably violate the Constitution in a number of ways - also, maybe the party that doesn't understand how to properly file an election contest shouldn't be making recommendations about how election contests should work?
There's a very good reason that there are privacy limits around what can be observed/recorded/broadcast about voting, up to and including voter intimidation and ballot secrecy of returns/tabulation.
TL;DR the Georgia Republican Party's official position on voting changes is full of factually-inaccurate proposals that misunderstand how elections work, likely violates federal law+is unlikely to be supported by actual top GOP officials in power. #gapol https://twitter.com/stphnfwlr/status/1358942460584550402?s=20
