For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the latest privacy legislation in the #waleg, read @jennifer_e_lee’s op-ed in the Seattle Times about why the People’s Privacy Act is the better approach for privacy for Washingtonians:

For the past three years, Washington legislators have been pushing weak privacy legislation, backed by corporations like Microsoft, and have failed to listen to the voices Washingtonians and grassroots organizations.
The legislation has been opposed by national and local organizations including @ACLU_WA, @cair_wa, @EFF and the Tech Equity Coalition, a group of civil liberties and civil rights-focused organizations in Washington state.
Recently, @RepKloba introduced the People’s Privacy Act in the #waleg, a bill co-written by the ACLU of Washington and the Tech Equity Coalition. As the name suggests, this bill puts people rather than corporations first, and would make privacy the default for Washingtonians.
Local and national organizations including @ACLU_WA, @cair_wa, @indians_seattle, @EPICprivacy, @weareoneamerica, and @jaclseattle signed on to a letter to the Washington state legislature asking them to pass the PPA. …https://signon-acluofwashington.nationbuilder.com/peoplesprivacyact
