I know people are furious, demanding schools open because “students’ mental state.”
But my school has been in-person since September, and students are still a mess of depression and anxiety.
We do our best w check-ins, and a million other things, but we’re in a global crisis.

Opening schools like we did, with all the CDC safety measures, has mostly kept us safe, but school is nothing like “normal school” anymore.
Kids are isolated in a small pod of students all day with little to no contact with other students. No clubs, band, sports, dances, no goofing in the halls, or changing classrooms.
And that’s just two days. The other three days they’re remote while the other half are in-person.

But even with students in school 2/5 days, teachers are in person 5/5 days, and putting themselves at risk.
But even working 5/5 days, I still hear parents who want their kids back in school full time.
with safety measures that’s impossible, but people are still furious.

Teachers can’t win. If they’re remote teaching (and working harder than ever), they’re lazy cowards. If they’re in person, it’s not enough, and we get: “Bring the kids back full time!”
Really, as a teacher who’s been teaching for almost twenty years, I’m feeling like I’m done.

I’m glad I’m working with students in person. I enjoy the kids even in this limited way.
But even before pandemic I felt like disposable labor. During pandemic ... more.

Anyway, how’s everybody else feeling?
