Lots of petitions and letters out there asking for elected officials to #ProtectLibraryWorkers and prioritize them for vaccines. Local chapters of @ALALibrary have taken the initiative, because ALA said it was a "local issue". Look at all of these 👇. It's not a local issue.
From @VLAlib: https://www.vermontlibraries.org/vla-covid-19-vaccination-statement We "ask that library staff be place in the same group as other front-line workers in the proposed schedule for administration of the COVID vaccine.'
From @njla: https://www.njla.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=438:request-to-prioritize-library-workers-as-essential-workers-in-the-vaccine-rollout&catid=26:njla-executive-board-statements-and-resolutions&Itemid=161 "We ask you to please include library workers in the 1B category of the NJ vaccine rollout, along with our colleagues in education and other frontline workers.'
ALA should've passed @Jennywombat and @acornsandnuts "RESOLUTION, to Classify Library Workers as 1b Workers to be Listed as a Priority Workforce in Receiving the COVID-19 Vaccine" without amendment. There is clear momentum to prioritize vaccination and #ProtectLibraryWorkers.
The final resolution is still not up, all language about CDC taken out, and thus title change needed, but here's the screenshot I got. Only resolved 4 saves it from being obsolete.
Local library associations have been making statements and petitions, putting in the effort to get workers vaccinated. Why can't @ALALibrary add its weight and authority more fully to this issue?
