I've made countless mistakes after incorrectly applying stats/metrics. Understanding what a stat or metric is measuring is essential. For examlple, a WR isn't automatically a good pass catcher because they have 11'' hands. All it means is they have big hands & probably a big 🍆.
WRs with early Breakout Ages (18-20) tell us that a WR is more likely to be successful than WRs with later BOA (21-23). But it doesn't mean a WR with an age 18 BOA is automatically better than a WR with an age 19 BOA.
College Dominator is a useful metric at describing the percentage of a college offense a player earned. But College Dominator isn't as reliable as other metrics at predicting future NFL success because it relies too heavily on TDs.
Combine metrics are an approximation for athleticism. However, a WR with a 4.40 40-yd dash isn't necessarily going to have more catches than a WR with a slower 40 time. Combine metrics are usually better applied using thresholds but I digress.
Ultimately, don't use a hammer when the directions call for a screwdriver. Same thing applies when using stats and metrics in fantasy football. I've made way too many mistakes using metrics incorrectly and it's a common mistake by people at any skill level of statistical analysis
