Independiente were founded in 1904 and actually used Blue and White as their colours, inspired by the first champions of Argentine Football: St Andrew's Athletic Club. The team was formed by railway workers.
In a wee tangent for a moment: the founder of the Argentine Football Association was none other than Alexander Watson Hutton, considered 'The father of Argentine football'. He was born in the Gorbals, proving once and for all that Glasgow truly is the capital of football.
So, in conclusion:
- Took their original colours from the Scottish team that were the first official champions in Argentine football.
- Have the saltire as one of their club badges
- They have some class third jerseys with the Scotland flag on them.
Hope you're convinced.
