ITALY THREAD

A couple of days ago, PM Giuseppe Conte resigned, plagued by a very slim majority that didn't really allow him to pass anything.

As law goes, the President of the Republic must nominate another PM to try getting up a new majority, avoiding Early Elections.
The president, Mattarella, nominated this guy, Mario Draghi, to try and make a sort of National Unity Government.

The problem is that he's a very divisive figure. Some Right Wingers see him as a globalist and Europeist shill, since he was the head of the European Bank...
and is very much responsible for things such as the sinking of Greece.

Some Left Wingers see him as a RWer instead, citing how he was first nominated head of the Italian National Bank by Berlusconi.

The Dem leadership probably thought this move would allow them to get...
Berlusconi on the majority, giving it a big enough margin to pass stuff, without bringing in Salvini and Meloni.

Dems were first to voice their Yes vote to a Draghi majority. M5S actually was against him for a short time, but quickly switched opinion.

However it's now split...
since many members revile Draghi as a cruel banker, and are threatening to leave the movement.

FI, unsurprisingly, accepted instantly to join the majority.
FDI, also unsurprisingly, refused cleanly.

However what threw everybody off the table was Salvini wanting to join in.
Right Wing opinionists and electorate are split and either revile this decision seeing it as alling with a Europeist, sworn enemy of Lega.

Others praise it, saying Draghi actually started a RW shift in the EU and/or saying this allows Salvini to block anything too bad the....
Dems would try to do till 2023, where New Elections are scheduled to be held.

The most thrown off guard are M5S and PD tho. The former had to basically go back on all their principles to ally with PD to not lose their seats.

The latter has far leftists threatening to...
sabotage the party and literally ran on anti Salvini propaganda until yesterday, for them governing together with him is basically a death sentence.
Lega and FDI are very RW parties, Lega being Salvini's.
FI is Berlusconi's party, being more moderate RW.

M5S is basically a populist party, born as anti Enstablishment and with both left and right wingers.
