In celebration of Black History Month, WIA honors and recognizes Dr. Evelyn Henley for her immense contributions to the field of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Evelyn Henley was the first ABA certified African American female anesthesiologist.
2/6 Born in Washington, D.C. in 1913, she initially trained as a nurse and later as a nurse anesthetist prior to enrolling at Howard University College of Medicine ('54). In 1962, she became a diplomate of the American College of Anesthesiology.
3/6 As her career progressed, she advanced into the role of Chief of the Division of Anesthesiology at Howard University. Often said of Dr.Henley: "her rapport with patients was perfect and her skill could not be excelled."She is an inspiration to all female anesthesiologists.
