Despite our desperate pursuit, security cannot and will not be found in paying off our mortgage, a clean bill of health, a certain level of status or influence, or the ability to win at people-pleasing.
We are innately insecure; innately dependent. Insecure so that we must look to and rely on the only truly secure One; having a dependency so deep that only the completely independent, complete self-sufficient One can provide us with any real peace.
I don't know about you, but I LOVE to pretend like I can strategize or work my way into security. Yet, there's beauty in our dependence - this is intentional design because seeking my own security always leads to self-destruction. The certainty of insecurity is actually love.
I've been reading some minor prophets lately, and the way God led His people into sure insecurity through exile/suffering is such a reminder of His intention to mold us into the shape of Christ rather than to give us earthly security. It's a good reminder for me today.
