Today marks one year since the 2020 General Election.

During the campaign we couldn’t keep up with the demand for our ‘More Mná’ badges.

I lost count of how many times I donated my badge to someone I met in the street or on the doors.
There are 18 TDs in the whole of County Cork. 17 are men. I am the only woman.

There are 6 times more men named Michael* representing Cork in the Dáíl than there are women.

*An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Mick Barry TD, Michael Collins TD, Michael Creed TD, Michael McGrath TD.
We desperately need more women at the decision-making table.

We see how the lack of representation fails women time and time again from the Cervical Check scandal to the Mother and Baby Homes Report to the gender pay gap.

This goes beyond politics. Just 3% of sports print coverage, 4% of online coverage and less than 12% of sports television coverage is dedicated to women’s sports.

The review of the Repeal legislation is coming up before the end of this year and it’s more important than ever that women’s voices are heard.

We’ll be looking at issues around the legislation: the mandatory 3-day waiting period & how conscience-based refusal impacts services, but before that, we want to hear from you. Please email [email protected] if you’d like to share your thoughts or experiences.

Today marks another important date. We are exactly one month away from International Women’s Day.

We’d love to send you a More Mná badge to mark it this year. E-mail [email protected] with your address and we’ll get them out to you ASAP.
