Regard the @rudy_rochman Debate against Noam Chomsky: what it came down to was, what is the significance of semantics in political theory and discourse?
1st issue: Rhetoric -- we all like to believe that what we are believing and saying is some sort of representation of the truth, but when a basic definition of terms is not possible what then becomes of the discourse?
Language becomes unintelligible, and any action such as policy becomes obscured. Chomsky himself fell victim to the own misuse of Language when we asserted that the Khazar theory was true
2nd issue -- we live in an age of massive access to information which also equally or some would argue more so entails misinformation. We need structure, rationalism, and an approach to knowledge without which we fall victim to the political and social tides.
I am not sure how those such as the Frankfurt school would interpret modern day social media politics, but probably not favorably. In many ways they discussed how much of an apparatus the media can be an arm of political structures that are much larger than any of us realize.
next issue -- I am really tired of having to define basic terms, this keeps us defending basic things like the right for Israel to exist and what Zionism e.g. means. I for one am more on the left but also strong zionist, this is not an oxymoron.
I believe that our best weapon for a better future is throwing ourselves into this. Throwing ourselves into politics, I recommend young people watching this by Stav Shaffir. I dont just mean politics in terms of having positions on things and voting.
(maybe watch this one first to see her fire) like how Hannah Arendt Emphasized active citizenship, civic engagement and collective deliberation. To me this is good fire because we are addressing each other not backing down out of fear or comfort
"For Arendt, it is only by means of direct political participation, that is, by engaging in common action and collective deliberation, that citizenship can be reaffirmed and political agency effectively exercised."
that is what is involved, I feel like we need all of your perspectives but you have to see your opposition, you have to also constantly ask of yourself "am I missing something" part of being Jewish is asking questions.
also, it is no coincidence in my opinion, we have to remember Chomsky is a Linguist.
