Even more conflicts within the coalition happened today. In 2010, PM Matovič was just a regular, insignificant government MP.
After several month when relations within the then gov't started to get a bit heathed, he wrote an open letter to the then political leaders: «It isn't correct. that chaos becomes the regular work method of this gov't or coalition.
I don't want to witness how, on one day, someone from gov't says something, on the other day, someone corrects them, and on the third day, someone denies all of it. I don't want to see how gov't meetings aren't attended by all leaders of gov't parties.
I don't want to see how leaders send messages through media». Today, 11 years later he is the PM and almost all of these are present in his own gov't. He showed it pretty well, even today.
Today has started off with an SaS (ECR) press briefing, that Slovakia has effectively lost 1 billion euros, because it didn't secure it's relocation (within gov't budget).
This statement was rejected by Minister of Regional Development, Veronika Remišová (ZL-EPP), saying that «No billion of euros was lost because it fell through in 2020, Miss MEP Nicholsonová has incorrect info.
I'm shocked by such statements from MEP Nicholsonová, and I hope she takes them back». She later also commented on a SME Twitter post. And now are in a small conflict, the 2 parties which used to cooperate to strenthen their position within the OLaNO and SR dominated coalition.
PM Matovič also joined into the conflict, calling them (MP Cigániková and MEP Nicholsonová) colleagues (in a softened form, with insulting undertone).
This conflict outshadowed the fact that yesterday, Minister Remišová criticised PM Matovič for communicating through media and presenting insufficient info. Now let's look into PM Matovič's interview with Le Monde.
PM Matovič, after having the conflict, praised himself for having a tough answers and responses interview with Le Monde. Now we at least know that he can't leave conflicts behind, even if he's 1000 kilometres away from Slovakia.
Reporters asked him: «You tested your entire population in November with the promise of lowering infection, but the number of infections has, in fact risen.
Isn't that a failure?» He said that crisis staff wanted 2nd round of testing, but that the Minister of the Economy Sulík, didn't buy them. And that because of that the numbers have risen significantly.
This was actually incorrect, since the crisis staff voted only to create a working group and it suggested to regions to prepare for testing. Le Monde reporters asked if he still thinks that Sulík is responsible for 4 thousand deaths, and why is he still keeping him in gov't.
He responded «There are clear causes and effects. In normal times he shouldn't be a minister, but our coalition is facing a pandemic and a ''mafia dragon''».
Matovič should realise that he isn't home, where he attacks his own ministers daily, but that he is doing it on the world stage, thus hurting slovak intrests, no matter if he's right or wrong, it's tasteless and inappropriate.
PM Matovič was a host of a political debate on TA3, where he repeated all of that about Sulík, as he normally does, and added that he should get punished, but not now since that would take down his gov't.
Sulík was invited to a debate/interview on SME, where he was asked about if there's a possibility of early elections. He responded that he will be working for the legislative period to end in proper time, but that with this chaotic working of gov't, early elections are feasible.
He also talked that there were several ways to early elections, one being the PM conecting regular parliament voting with gov't confidence votes, which Matovič has talked in favour of. But this is just a one single day, in the history of one of the worst Slovak governments.
