Quick thread on progress on @IBSABlindSports @IBSAB1Football classification research for those interested. The expert consultation has now been published. We questioned panelists on a variety of topics to help guide the research moving forward... https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/PWG5RPEPDNAPGYYG45TH/full?target=10.1080/02640414.2021.1881301
One key requirement for the research is a valid and reliable performance measure. We asked the expert panel to indentify elements of the performance are affected by vision impairment, which are most likely to affected first, and which and are most important to winning a game.
Using this information we have designed and tested the Vision Impaired Football Skills (VIFS) Test. The test focuses on the technical skills the panel identfied as most important. Now published here. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/24733938.2021.1885725
The next stage of the project working toward evidence for the MIC is conduct a simulation study using the VIFS to see at what levels of simulated impairment cause a drop off in performance. This was due to be conducted in March and April 2020, testing has been delayed by COVID
We have designed and piloted this work and are ready to collect data as soon as it is safe to do so. Once this is complete the next phases will involve getting out there with the athletes to work toward establishing optimal class structures.
