Today, @SenatorLeyva intro'd the Silenced No More Act! I’ve been excited about this bill since last year, when @PeterRukin and I discussed expanding protections for millions of workers after the discrimination @erikashimizu and I faced. #SilencedNoMore 1/ https://sd20.senate.ca.gov/news/2021-02-08-senator-leyva-introduces-%E2%80%9Csilenced-no-more-act%E2%80%9D
I’m rarely effusive, but GOSH AM I EXCITED. It’s a long process, but if this is passed by the legislature and then signed by @GavinNewsom, it will let workers who sign settlement agreements share details related to EVERY covered form of workplace discrimination. 2/
This will amend CCP 1001, a brave first step in addressing sex discrimination/assault/harassment. I'm grateful to @SenatorLeyva for authoring it in 2018, because it's how I was able to share details about the sex discrimination I faced @Pinterest. 3/ https://twitter.com/nitashatiku/status/1279097689976655872?s=20
NDAs are often used by the powerful as *silencing mechanisms” and this legislation would pave the way for much needed accountability following instances of discrimination and harassment. 4/
I’m so proud to lead this effort along with @SenatorLeyva, Mariko Yoshihara of @CELA_Lawyers, and @jstender415 of @EqualRightsAdv. We are committed to justice for all workers.

I really can’t wait to see the trade associations that posted “Black Lives Matter” statements last year allow their members to hide behind them while opposing this legislation. https://twitter.com/william_fitz/status/1358858277883322369
