Guys, I’m really exhausted from saying this, but it really is absolutely racist and indefensible for people on the left to call me AlQaeda/ISIS. As a Muslim, or even just as a human being, the constant dehumanisation I am subjected to is physically unbearable.
This is a Corbyn supporter, not someone on the Far Right. This is a day-in, day-out experience for me on this website. I’ve had enough and I’m not going to tolerate it.
These organisations have murdered, tortured and imprisoned my friends. They have made direct threats to my life. I have spent an entire career studying & cataloguing their abuses. To be accused of advocating for them purely based on the fact that I am also Sunni is reprehensible
Throughout my career, long before ISIS even existed, while hate preachers were still being invited on breakfast television, I was one of the youngest journalists on the beat warning how dangerous these extremists were and how the law wasn’t dealing with them seriously enough.
What was my crime? What did I do to incite this racial hatred against me? I advocated for The White Helmets, a Syrian humanitarian org that saves civilians from aerial bombardment. I delivered 2 ambulances to them, I used my platform as a journalist to call for their protection.
For that, I have to suffer daily targeted racial harassment, and often times by accounts with followers who pretend to pose as anti-racists standing against Islamophobia. It’s happening right in front of many of them.
There is no union, no religious organisation, no employer I can turn to for support on this either. Every time I have explained it to senior (always white British male) staff the matter is ignored. I’m done being quiet about it, I’m done pretending those editors didn’t fail
