This is a terribly dangerous riposte that I am surprised to see from Mr. Akin. It's one I wish he would reconsider.

Let me explain why.

Misinformation online is a genuine, real, documented and universally accepted problem. A point with which I doubt Mr. Akin would disagree. https://twitter.com/davidakin/status/1358615176556208133
Being himself a reputable member of the media, he must appreciate that there are others who are, in fact, "media", and who do, in fact, make misrepresentations from time to time. Rebel Media, as an example. Post Millennial. The Proud group.
The original post from the MP seemed to be truthful in this regard, careful not to be incendiary or specific and did not at all paint the media as anything close to an "enemy of the people".

The fact is, there was misinformation.
There were dozens of competing narratives, not all of them *could* have been correct. Some *must* have been misinformation, ipso facto.

What the MP said is literally true.
To pretend that he said something he didn't, or doesn't have the duty to ensure the public has the correct information is disingenuous and, frankly, will contribute to the problem which Mr. Akin cannot fail to understand is a real one.
If our honorable journalists, which I believe Mr. Akin is, won't help ameliorate the problem and will instead advance it, we are literally doomed.

This post seems to say that there is no misinformation online or in any media.
If that is Mr. Akin's official opinion, then he is wrong and that's actually how societies become Trumpian, to use his word.

If Mr. Akin knows better then one wonders why he's calling out someone trying to bring clarity. Even if he disagrees with the content of that clarity.
If our media won't police itself or accept that not all of them are trustworthy, and chooses to circle the wagons and remove the ability of our own government to bring facts to the table without being called Trumpian, I'm not sure how we survive this.
The fact is this: there is misinformation around this topic. Some of it came from "media" and some came from non-media "online". There was nothing wrong with that post from the MP, in my opinion. That's his job.
I'm very open to hearing why this is a bad take.
