These cases can take years and millions of dollars to investigate and prosecute. There's also just so many school districts out there that advocates only have the resources to do the biggest and most visible cases. (2/x)
School elections impact the most important and resource-intensive function of local government: Ensuring access to a quality education for all children. But school elections receive little scrutiny generally and even less over whether BIPOC residents are well-represented. (3/x)
Cases like Ferguson, East Ramapo, and now Worcester can bring about local remedies and raise awareness, but it's very hard for federal VRA litigation to bring about change on the scale of this pervasive problem. Other solutions are required, but also very available! (4/x)
