Interesting piece. My thoughts below https://twitter.com/Noahpinion/status/1358653919753240578
There is a slow right drift and gender divide in the Muslim community in America. Many on the far-right are oddly attracted to Islam and there have been recent collaborations. The progressive left in the Muslim community has been heavily subsidized by white non Muslims and
I think the popularity has reached it's peak. Meanwhile America has moved on from Muslims while China and India and others have wars on Islam that few Americans care about or understand as you said
The so-called war on terror is over and groups like AQ and ISIS have been soundly defeated. That ideology no longer has appeal and secularists are on the rise in Muslim-majority countries. The crimes of ISIS has helped lead to a disaffection with political Islam right or wrong
The failure of the Arab Spring and the violent and repressive response from authoritarian regimes has led to a reluctance to challenge regimes and the appeal of theologies that bolster that decision
Back to America. Editors have little interest in Islam these days and interest in Islam seems to have faded. The right has found new and bigger threats to hate in the Deep State, cannibalistic pedos, BLM, Antifa, Jews, etc and the left have found new groups to save & fetishize
This is ultimately a great thing for Muslims in America as the community can return to developing organically without the heavy influence of outside forces targeting the community for influence.
I do think there will be two long lasting legacies. First the surveillance state in the American-Muslim community is probably here to stay and the legacy of progressive activism and alliances has probably built a permanent niche with Muslims especially for gen x.
