On Sunday February 7, 2021 at approximately 2:30 AM, our mother, Marie Antoinette Gautier (a surgeon), our dad, Louis Buteau (an agronomist), our aunt, Marie Louise Gautier, (a high ranking member of the Haitian National police) were amongst a string of citizens
including a Supreme Court judge, Yvickel Dabresil, who were illegally arrested by rogue police officiers serving a president whose official mandate ended on February 7th.
My parents are public servants, people who have dedicated their lives to Haiti, its institutions and young democracy.
They were arrested before 6am ( which is illegal as per the Haitian constitution).
They were arrested before 6am ( which is illegal as per the Haitian constitution).
They were arrested by USGPN agents (a specialized police force responsible for the security of the national palace) acting outside of their jurisdiction.
My family members were not caught doing any illegal activities (citizen gatherings are guaranteed by Haitian law). It is clear that this is nothing more than a political arrest ordained by an illegal president in a pathetic attempt to hold on to power.
We demand the release of our family members, the judge and all who have been illegally detained since February 7, 2021.
