So I am going to be direct here. Janet Woodcock's role in the Exondys approval, the delays in Plan B OTC approval and cover-up on Avandia disqualify her for the post of @US_FDA commissioner. Corporate backed disease groups and Pharma love her because she does their bidding. 1/
Don't know the Exondys affair? Here is one piece on the ugly tale. Didn't serve patients, nor the public health, went against all scientific advice. Woodcock front and center in this mess. 2/ https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.4234
Then on Plan B as over-the-counter? Woodcock warned of teen sex cults if approved. Yes. Yes. She did. 3/ https://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/07/magazine/07contraception.html
And Avandia. Woodcock and CDER made a tragic mistake and tried to sweep it under the carpet. 4/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2013/05/23/steven-nissen-the-hidden-agenda-behind-the-fdas-avandia-hearings/?sh=2e13cb045cfb
And the disease groups speaking out for Dr. Woodcock? Many of them get most of their funding from the pharmaceutical industry. 5/ https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2598094
And often don't disclose this funding. 6/ https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/645619
So reporters, please vet these candidates with a little more scrutiny--all of them--rather than making this about the tally of endorsements. The situation with Woodcock is just appalling. Exondys. Plan B. Avandia. Just scratching the surface. 7/
