Of all the flagrant lies the 1619 project tells, the part that is most wrong but never talked is the implication that America was sovereign in 1619, when it was not sovereign until 1783. This is done of course to pad their numbers.

400 yEaRs!

Bitch, that was Britain.
In 1789, at the Constitutional convention, America wrote a moratorium into the Constitution abolishing the transcontinental slave trade and the first day he was able to, President Jefferson ended it.
The states were ahead of this.
Abolished:
1789: PA, MA, NH, CT, RI & ME
1800: NY, VT
1821: OH, IL, IN

And so on- as Americans moved west & Territories became States, each one abolished slavery.

Slavery was never an American principle. America was about how to end the practice.
