Southern heritage is complicated for obvious reasons. We certainly weren't/aren't the only racists around, but we did start a war to preserve it. That can't be ignored.
But there's a strong backbone of southern progressivism that's been masked for decades by voter suppression.

Hearing no-apologies, no wishy-washy progressive, pro-choice, pro-LGBTQ+ values come from that kind of drawl warms my heart so, so much. And gives me hope.
I love, love, LOVE claiming things like "ya'll" to stand for inclusion for all.
