@Sen_JoeManchin @SenCapito My daughter brings home 1200 mo after taxes, making $10 hr. She is single mom w/2 under 5y. The avg rent here is $600-1200 for 3 bdrms. After paying util, car ins, gas in car, she has less than $400 left. That doesn't even include essentials like child
care, diapers, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, clothing, etc. Or food! Thank goodness for SNAP! We bought an old house & made it livable just so our daughter & grandchildren would have a place to live! Most don't have that option. We are not rich.
We sold personal property just to do that.
Yet you would deny her, & others in her situation, a living wage. You would deny us, & others like us, a stimulus check.
The price of everything has steadily increased over the years. Even in WV.

Don't tell me that the cost of living here means people don't deserve to be paid more. The influx of gas workers caused rent prices to go through the roof. People trying to profit from it hurt those living in their communities. Rent is out of reach for many low income.
Subsidized housing is their only option, & that comes with its own challenges.
Walk in her shoes. Live for a yr on $1200 month. You can't do it. You have no idea what it's like to struggle just to provide a home for yourself & your children.
Shame on you both.
