After 7 weeks, schools in many parts of ON are reopening today.

During those 7 weeks @sflecce & @fordnation made no meaningful enhancements to bus & classroom safety, despite knowing what measures were needed & while sitting on billions of unspent federal funds.
/1
As in September, @Sflecce has appealed to @SickKidsNews guidance to justify school reopeing while the majority of the concrete COVID-19 safety measures recommended by those very experts have not been implemented.
/2
If @fordnation announces plans for the imminent loosening of other restrictions, given persistent substantial community COVID-19 transmission in many parts of ON & the emergence of variants of concern, stable & safest in-person learning will once again be put in jeapardy.
/3
Stable & safest in-person learning requires:
- low community rates of COVID-19;
- an improved, clear & translated school screening tool;
- exclusion of family members of symptomatic people from schools while test results are pending;
- rapid access to testing & results;
/4
- improved ventilation in educational settings;
- optimal (2m) physical distancing in educational settings;
- paid caregiver & sick leave;
- accessible & funded isolation facilities.
