A congressman in my last book was asked: why bother with an investigative committee if they produce nothing?
His response?
Because investigative committees show the nation Congress has taken things in hand, & put facts in the record & in the hands of the American people. https://twitter.com/theplumlinegs/status/1358752362907766786

It would be a serious mistake to rush thru an impeachment trial assuming there won’t be a conviction
We need to know what happened
We need to know who did what
We need Senators to vote on record & show what they see as acceptable—& expose the threat of their acceptance as well

For all of these reasons — informing the public, making a record, exposing who did what, compelling senators to vote on whether what actually happened is acceptable—there must be live witnesses.
